Södra's forestry harvesting operations impacted by mild weather

VÄXJÖ, Sweden, Feb. 3, 2020 (Press Release) -Mild weather during the autumn and winter period has impacted harvesting operations in some parts of Södra’s forestry operations area. Harvesting operations will now be diverted to land with sufficient soil compaction to prevent driving damage. Wood supplies to the mills are still on track.

“The weather in recent months has affected hauling conditions and the harvesting rate in some places. However, due to effective planning, high mill stocks and balanced roadside stocks, wood deliveries to the mills are on track and remain stable,” said Sofia Petersson, Wood Supply Manager Södra Skog.

“Our logistics planning has faced major challenges during the autumn and winter period. At the same time as prioritising spruce bark beetle areas, we also have to take soil compaction  into account to prevent driving damage. Our contractors are currently doing a great job in the forest and with our soil protection guarantee,” said Sofia Petersson.

“Wherever possible, we are choosing tracts that are close to major road networks to minimise driving on forest roads. That will require a lot of planning and communication from everyone involved until we see the end of these weather conditions,” said Sofia Petersson.
