VAXJO, Sweden, Aug. 13, 2020 (Press Release) -Marcus Svensson has been appointed Head of Public Affairs at Södra. He will organise, coordinate and manage Södra’s work within public affairs going forward.

“Our industrial operations and terms for forest ownership are largely dependent on external decisions taken by the authorities and politicians. During the last few years, we have seen issues concerning sustainability, fossil-fuel independence and a circular economy as well as ownership, use and forest products rise in importance on the agenda at national as well as EU level. This is a development we are now addressing by strengthening our existing work within public affairs,” said Peter Karlsson, Interim President and CEO at Södra.

Marcus Svensson is currently Head of Press Södra and will begin his new role on 1 October. Recruitment of a new Head of Press will be begin shortly.

Södra was founded in 1938 and is the largest forest-owner association in Sweden, with a membership of close to 52,000 forest owners. Södra is also an international forest industry Group, with 3,100 employees around the world. Net sales in 2019 were 23 SEK billion. Balancing production efficiency with nature conservation guides everything that we do. We produce timber, interior wood products, pulp for paper and textiles, and green energy. We use every part of the tree, and are always looking to develop new products from this fantastic, renewable raw material. Södra is a world-leading producer of market pulp and also owns one of the largest sawmill operations in Europe. Through value-generating relationships and a long-term approach, Södra is leading the way for the future of sustainable forestry.
