LONDON, Feb. 17, 2020 (Press Release) -DS Smith, the leading provider of sustainable packaging solutions, has today announced it has received an A minus score for climate change, sustainable forestry and water security from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

Each year, the CDP takes the information supplied in its annual reporting process and scores companies and cities based on their journey through disclosure and towards environmental leadership and grades businesses from ‘A’ to ‘F’.

DS Smith has submitted its data since 2010, scaling its performance up five levels in the process by achieving an A minus in the latest round. The 2020 score positions DS Smith at leadership level, recognising its implementation of ‘best in class’ practices in leading the fight against climate change, water scarcity and deforestation.

Tom Giddings, Sustainability Reporting Manager at DS Smith said: “We’re delighted to have achieved an A- across the board in 2019. The CDP has helped us implement better reporting standards, strengthen our sustainability governance and shape our strategy by helping us to understand the role of a corporate climate-leader in a changing world.

“Our marked improvement throughout the years reflects our commitment to sustainability as well as its key function as the foundation of our business strategy.”

In addition to providing sustainable packaging solutions globally, DS Smith is Europe’s largest recycler of paper and cardboard and is a net positive recycler, meaning it handles more recycled material than it puts on the market. Its commitment to put sustainability at the heart of its business practice is further reinforced by its global partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
