SAO PAULO, March 21, 2014 (RISI) - Brazilian pulp and paper producer Suzano on Mar. 20 held the official opening ceremony of its new 1.5 million tonnes/yr bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) pulp installed at Imperatriz city, Maranhão state, northeast Brazil. The mill is the first large investment of the sector in that region and opens a new boundary for pulp production in the country, as it will be shipped from the north of Brazil straight to overseas markets, reducing delivery time and avoiding the crowded southeast trade routes.Read more

SAO PAULO, Oct. 8, 2013 (RISI) - Suzano Pulp and Paper has for the first time fired up the power biomass boiler at its new Imperatriz pulp unit in Maranhão state, Brazil. During the mill commissioning period the boiler will run for a few hours per day, as there is not yet demand for steam and energy. SAO PAULO, Aug. 29, 2013 (RISI) - Brazilian pulp and paper producer Suzano fired up the biomass boiler at its new 1.5 million tonnes/yr bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) pulp mill in Imperatriz, Maranhão state. The company also tested other operations including the water supply demineralization process.
