WASHINGTON, DC, Dec. 11, 2019 (Press Release) -The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Department of Justice, the Kalamazoo River Natural Resource Trustee Council, and Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) today announced a proposed consent decree that would require NCR Corp. to clean up and fund future response actions at a significant portion of the Allied Paper Inc./Portage Creek/Kalamazoo River Superfund site. GREEN BAY, WI, March 19, 2019 (Local News) -The future costs related to the decades-long contamination of the Fox River is getting more clear.
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul announced a federal judge has approved a settlement to ensure all future costs related to the contamination will be paid by the corporate companies responsible for the contamination.
From the mid-1950s until 1971, river sediments were contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB's) that were discharged by paper companies that made and recycled "carbonless" copy paper containing PCB's.Read more
