SEATTLE, WA, Nov. 6, 2018 (Local News) -Packaging designer Ryan Gaither believes in the power of cardboard.
He’s laid down a massive sheet of it – as big as a king-size bed – at the Swedish-owned BillerudKorsnäs design lab in Portland.
He flips the switch on a machine that zips around the cardboard, stabbing and cutting it with a robotic exact-o knife.
“Basically anything we create — any design we’re looking to validate – we cut out with this machine,” he said. “This lets us know if we’re on the right track or on a fool’s errand.”Read more
ESPOO, Finland, Oct. 31, 2018 (Press Release) -Valmet has received a repeat order for a Valmet IQ Process and Quality Vision (PQV) system from BillerudKorsnäs Skärblacka mill in Sweden. The system will be installed on the mill's paper machine PM 7 to maximize the production line's efficiency, boost end-product quality and improve business performance.
The order was included in Valmet's first quarter of 2018 orders received. The system was accepted by the mill and taken into production use in August. In 2017, Valmet supplied an identical system for the mill's PM 10.Read more

Together they have taken basic research based on pure cellulose from algae and developed it to work with the same type of fibre that BillerudKorsnäs usually uses to manufacture paper and packaging.
