ATLANTA, GA, July 15, 2015 (Press Release) -TAPPI is pleased to announce that Derek Griffin, senior development engineer with LanzaTech, will keynote this year's International Bioenergy and Bioproducts Conference (IBBC), to be held Oct. 28-30 in Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Griffin earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of California and his Bachelors in Chemical Engineering from University of Massachusetts.

His role at LanzaTech is focused on the design and scale-up of the company's proprietary gas fermentation process and is active in the build-out of the LanzaTech Freedom Pines Biorefinery in Soperton, Georgia.

Dr. Griffin was previously with Eli Lilly pharmaceuticals focused on the design and scale-up of continuous crystallization systems.

The 2015 IBBC program focuses on "Leveraging Forest Biomass for the Next Generation of Fuels and Chemicals" and is a must-attend event for pulp and paper companies that are invested in exploring the unique benefits possessed by the pulp and paper industry to produce fuel, energy, and chemicals from biomass. Technical program topics include: biomass, thermochemical and biochemical conversion technologies, bioproducts, pellet utilization and case studies.

Conference highlights include a tour American Process Inc.'s Biorefinery in Thomaston, Georgia and a special dinner event in downtown Atlanta. And for the first time, IBBC will present a Student Poster Session showcasing student research.

IBBC is co-located with the TAPPI Pulping Engineering, Environmental, Recycling and Sustainability (PEERS) Conference, Oct. 25-28 in Atlanta, GA, creating a full week of valuable education on topics that apply directly to your job. IBBC offers six bonus presentations on biorefineries included that are part of the PEERS program and will take place Wednesday, October 28 before IBBC's opening session. Session topics include:

  • "Extracting Value from Bioproducts" featuring updates on the LignoBoost and LignoForce processes

  • "Black Liquor and Biofuel Corrosion" featuring three presentations addressing corrosion formation and control issues
