The new joint initiative will provide an energy supply contract which offers a better and more secure outlook covering the next four years, which will continue to support the site to lower the overall CO2emissions.
The new agreement has the full support of Aylesford's shareholders, SCA Forest Products and Mondi Group.
Mark Lunabba, Aylesford's Managing Director commented, "We are confident that this new agreement, together with the on-going efficiency and cost reduction programme, will further enhance Aylesford's competitiveness and enable the continued production of high quality Renaissance Newsprint."
Fraser Blunt, Head of npower Cogen & Generation Services, said "I am pleased to continue to work in partnership with Aylesford. This revised contract gives confidence to all parties for at least the next four years, and shows the benefits of a combined heat and power plant for the UK economy."
The changes will enable us to optimise our costs; which will improve the competitiveness of this mill over the next four years and enhance our financial position during this time. This is, of course, also excellent news for us as a company, our customers and suppliers and for all the respective stakeholders in Aylesford Newsprint.
