RUMFORD, ME, July 21, 2010 (Sun Journal) -A plan that has been a long time coming at NewPage Corp. will finally get under way later this summer.

An electrical substation and control house will be built adjacent to and in a portion of what was once Railroad Street at a cost of several million dollars, said mill spokesman Tony Lyons. He declined to be more specific about the cost.

The substation, known as an interconnect that will look similar to the substation that tops Falls Hill, will encompass about 15,000 square feet. The control house, which will contain electrical protection devices and a monitoring system for the hydropower generation facility, will be built on a site within the paper mill near the Androscoggin River.
