CANTON, NY, Feb. 11, 2015 (Local News) -A planned expansion of a natural gas pipeline to the International Paper mill in Ticonderoga, N.Y., has been scrapped.

The project would have carried natural gas under Lake Champlain from Vermont to the New York shore, to feed a lower cost, lower carbon emission form of energy to the plant, but rising costs derailed the project.

The IP mill in Ticonderoga is one of the biggest employers in the Adirondack Park. That is why a lot of people supported IP's plan to pay for the expansion of the Vermont Gas company pipeline. Supporters said the pipeline would have helped IP lower its costs and keep the Ticonderoga mill running strong.
