WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI, April 25, 2012 (Wausau Daily Herald) -Local government and business officials are disappointed after one of central Wisconsin's largest employers announced Tuesday it is halting plans to build a biorefinery at its Wisconsin Rapids paper mill.
NewPage Corp. made the announcement more than four years after the U.S. Department of Energy promised the Ohio-based papermaker $30 million to construct such a facility. Last year, the Energy Department awarded the company another $20 million to fund the project after favorable results of an initial feasibility study.
