SAO PAULO, Sept. 29, 2011 (RISI) -Brazil's Suzano Renewable Energy, owned by Suzano Pulp and Paper, has entered into a letter of intent with the government of Maranhão state to install one or more biomass energy production units in the region.

Suzano has plans to build three 1 million tonnes/yr wood pellet lines each, with startup expected between 2013 and 2014. The company is investing around Real 1 billion ($547.5 million) in the project, including forests and industrial units.

At the beginning of June, Suzano said it was looking for a partner - or partners - for the renewable energy company, but has not yet disclosed any names.
