BRUSSELS, Sept 25, 2014 (RISI) - Russia's Arkhangelsk pulp and paper mill (APPM) has launched a new Valmet-supplied biomass boiler at its mill in Novodvinsk in the Arkhangelsk region.

The bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) power boiler will replace one of the mill's existing coal boilers. It will use bark and water treatment sludge as fuel. The new biomass boiler is expected to raise the firm's self-sufficiency in energy and steam and reduce production residues and greenhouse gas emissions.

The total cost of the investment is over Rouble 1.5 billion ($40 million).
