OAKLAND, CA, April 6, 2015 (RISI) -North American forest products railroad freight was up 1.5% in the latest week ending March 28, 2015, to 28,030 carloads, the Assn of American Railroads reported. Volume through 12 weeks of 2015 at 224,853 carloads was 4% higher from a year ago.
In the week, US forest products rail freight was up 2.3%, Canada was 19.9% higher, and Mexico was 56.2% lower. Year-to-date US traffic was off 0.3%, Canada was up 11.2%, and Mexico was down 35.6%.Read more

In the week, US forest products freight was down 2.5%, Canada surged 17.5% and Mexico was 27.3% lower.

Caraustar on Feb. 19 said it closed the acquisition of The Newark Group after it cleared a US Dept of Justice (DOJ) antitrust review that did not require any divestitures.
Caraustar, owned by private equity firm H.I.G. Capital, announced the merger in July (P&PW, July 11, 2014, p. 1). Market sources told RISI that the DOJ was investigating the merger up until early January. Newark Group is owned by DDJ Capital, an investment company.Read more
