OAKLAND, CA, Sept. 10, 2014 (RISI) -Genesee & Wyoming reported North American pulp and paper railroad freight in August was off 0.1% from a year ago at 15,007 carloads. Lumber and wood products freight was 7.1% higher to 12,135 carloads.
The company's total August freight was 12.8% higher with strong growth in agricultural products and minerals.
OAKLAND, CA, Sept. 4, 2014 (RISI) -North American forest products railroad freight was off 0.3% in the latest week ending Aug. 30, 2014, to 19,854 carloads, the Assn of American Railroads reported. Volume through 35 weeks of 2014 was 0.6% below the same period of 2013 at 653,067 carloads.
US forest products carloads in the week were down 0.3%, Canada was up 0.5% and Mexico was 58.8% lower.
Year-to-date volumes in the US were up 2.6%, Canada was down 5.1% and Mexico was 7.4% lower.Read more
OAKLAND, CA, Sept. 12, 2014 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -In a largely expected move that came earlier than anticipated, International Paper (IP) directors elected COO Mark Sutton as new CEO effective Nov. 1, and as chmn effective Jan. 1.
CEO John Faraci will leave the top position on Oct. 31 and the role of chmn on Dec. 31. He remains a special adviser until he retires on Feb. 28, after leading the company since 2003.
IP is the world's largest paper and board producer by capacity, with mills in the US, Brazil, China, Europe, India, and Russia.Read more

OAKLAND, CA, Aug. 15, 2014 (RISI) -North American forest products railroad freight was up 0.9% in the week ending Aug. 9 from a year ago to 18,862 carloads, the Association of American Railroads reported. Volume through 32 weeks of 2014 at 595,162 carloads is down 0.6% from 2013.
US forest products rail freight in the week was 5.4% higher and year-to-date is up 2.7%. Canadian volume was down 4.9% and 5.3%, and Mexico was down 65.5% and up 2.3%, respectively.Read more
