Walki Group joins 4evergreen industry alliance to support fiber-based packaging in circular economy

ESPOO, Finland, Nov. 21, 2019 (Press Release) -CEPI, the European association representing the paper industry, announced today of a new alliance called 4evergreen. The aim of the alliance, bringing together industry actors from paper and board producers to packaging converters, brand-owners and retailers, technology and material suppliers, waste sorters andcollectors, is to boost the contribution of fibre-based packaging for a more sustainable world.

Walki has joined the alliance as one of its first members.

PORT ANGELES, WA, Nov. 20, 2019 (Peninsula Daily News ) -McKinley Paper Co. is targeting mid-January for beginning production at its 99-year-old Ediz Hook plant with about 100 workers after nearly three years of industrial dormancy at the site and lost revenue for the city of Port Angeles.

If that time line holds, city government can expect once again to receive about $330,000 annually in utility and electricity fees — although city officials are not including the revenue in the proposed 2020 budget the City Council will discuss tonight at 6 p.m. at city hall.

Ohio EPA announces test results on substance found near Pixelle paper mill - calcium carbonate

CHILLICOTHE, OH, Nov. 20, 2019 (Chillicothe Gazette) -A substance that covered vehicles and property near the Pixelle paper mill has been identified, according to the Ohio EPA. 

The substance tested as a non-toxic substance known as calcium carbonate, said Anthony Chenault of the Ohio EPA. The company will be contacted, said Chenault. 

Calcium carbonate is commonly used in paper mills as a filler material in the alkaline papermaking process, according to pulppapermill.com.

Nova Scotia urged to reject Northern Pulp's controversial pipe proposal

HALIFAX, NS, Nov. 20, 2019 (CBC) -Groups representing fishermen, First Nations and others in the Pictou, N.S., area called on the provincial government Tuesday to reject a controversial proposal to pipe treated pulp mill effluent into the Northumberland Strait.

At a news conference in the town, group spokespersons argued Northern Pulp has not made the case to justify a new waste-treatment facility for the aging pulp mill at Abercrombie Point, Pictou County.
