WRAP, which manages The UK Plastics Pact, has today published guidance that sets out which plastics used in household packaging are currently classed as ‘recyclable’. It provides direction to packaging designers and specifiers, setting out a ‘best in class’ vision for design, including targets for recycled content.

Jenkins Shipping Company fined £30,000 after HGV driver suffered lower limb fractures

BOOTLE, UK, July 12, 2019 (Press Release) -A shipping company has been fined after a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) driver was struck by a paper reel that was being loaded on to his trailer.

Liverpool Magistrates’ Court heard how, on 7 September 2016, an agency HGV driver working for Jenkins Shipping Company Limited at its Liverpool depot, was assisting in the loading of paper reels onto his HGV trailer, when a reel slipped from the clamp attachment of the fork lift truck being used to load the reels striking the driver’s lower body and legs. He sustained several lower limb fractures.

UK supermarket chain Asda to stop offering plastic carrier bags with online grocery shopping

LEEDS, UK, July 5, 2019 (Press Release) -Asda is to stop providing single-use plastic carrier bags with its online grocery orders, in a move that will remove around 85 million plastic bags from production each year.

Following a successful trial period in South-West England and from its Dartford Home Shopping Centre, Asda will remove the option to have a ‘bagged’ delivery on all grocery home shopping and click & collect orders nationwide from 31st July, resulting in a saving of over 500 tonnes of plastic.

One of three finalists, Avery Dennison is the first pressure sensitive label material supplier to introduce liner made from recycled PET, available commercially in Europe. The liner, which uses 30% PET post-consumer waste, meets technical qualifications while maintaining quality and performance for label design, printing, and application.
