ESPOO, Finland, June 24, 2019 (Press Release) -Huhtamaki participated in a life-cycle analysis study that surveyed the full carbon footprint of different types of cups used for coffee. According to the study, paper cups often have the lowest carbon footprint, and recycling lowers it further by 54%. Huhtamaki recently introduced a 100% renewable, plant polyethylene coated FutureSmart paper cup.

OAKLAND, CA, June 21, 2019 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -International Paper (IP) CEO Mark Sutton said this week that a planned machine conversion project at its Riverdale mill in Selma, AL, will allow North America's largest containerboard and corrugated producer to make unique high-quality boxes that will double as a shipping container and a highly colorful print product that can sell product at a retail store.

Sutton said such a "corrugated package almost becomes a consumer package," during his presentation at the Vertical Research Partners conference this week.

OSLO, Norway, June 20, 2019 (Press Release) -Fontsoria drives its strategy for more responsible water packaging forward with the launch of its Agua enCaja Mejor brand in Pure-Pak cartons with plant-based renewable polymers from sugar cane.

Aiming to reduce the environmental impact of water packaging, Fontsoria launched Agua enCaja Mejor, meaning "Water in a Box is Better" in 2017. The product was a new approach for water packaging in Spain, and the company has seen sales more than double with products now sold through food service and specialized channels with key customers.

Stora Enso will convert Oulu paper mill into packaging board mill

The investment includes converting paper machine 7 into high-quality virgin-fibre-based kraftliner production, and the closure of paper machine 6 and sheeting plant. Production on the converted machine is estimated to start by the end of 2020.

The typical end uses for kraftliner are in packaging segments that require high strength, quality and purity, such as food, fruit and vegetables as well as heavy duty packaging. Production will target global export markets.

SCA acquires 10,000 hectares of forest land in Estonia

Forestum has an Estonian subsidiary which owns 10 300 hectares of land on the islands of Dagö and Ösel. 8,800 hectares of this land is forest land with a standing volume of 1,300,000 m3.

SCA recently acquired 10,000 hectares of forest in Latvia.

“We have the intention to grow as a forest owner in the Baltics”, says Jonas Mårtensson, President Forest.”The Baltic states are a natural part of our raw material supply base and we have been present in the market for a long time as a buyer of timber. Having our own forest resource strengthens our operations in the region.” 

BillerudKorsnäs completed the acquisition of Bergvik Skog Öst

The agreement implies that BillerudKorsnäs acquires Bergvik Skog Öst AB, which comprises approximately 350,000 hectares of forest land in Sweden, and in connection to that divests 5% of the shares in Bergvik Skog Väst AB to Stora Enso.

All conditions for the transactions have now been fulfilled and the transactions have been completed 31 May.
