STOCKHOLM, April 2, 2019 (Press Release) -Holmen has taken a new step in its sustainable strategy work. Holmen’s largest forest holdings are located in northern Sweden, while much of its industrial production takes place in the south. To secure its wood supply and add value to its own forest, Holmen is now going to be transporting its wood south on trains from Green Cargo.

NEW YORK, April 1, 2019 (Local News) -Bye-bye, baggie!

New York lawmakers voted Sunday to bar retailers from giving customers their purchases in single-use plastic bags — and approved fees of up to five cents each if they opt for paper sacks instead.

The plastic-bag ban was contained in one of 10 bills that comprise the state’s proposed $175.5 billion budget, which must be signed by Gov. Cuomo by midnight to meet the deadline for Monday’s start of the 2020 fiscal year.

The legislation is set to go into effect on March 1, 2020.

HANOVER, NH, April 1, 2019 (Local News) -The Co-op is tossing out plastic bags.

Joining a growing number of businesses and municipalities that are banning or voluntarily giving up the use of plastic shopping bags and other plastic packaging products, the Hanover Consumer Cooperative Society will begin to phase out plastic grocery bags over the next 12 months with the goal of completely eliminating them by the spring of 2020.
