ATLANTA, April 18, 2019 (Press Release) -Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Justice announced a settlement with Honeywell International Inc. and International Paper Co. for cleanup of contaminated soils and sediments at the LCP-Holtrachem plant in Riegelwood, Columbus County, North Carolina.

International Paper and railroads try to reduce train delays around Pensacola mill in Florida

Recently, Florida Sen. Doug Broxson and Escambia County Commissioner Steven Barry met with CSX and International Paper to discuss the problem. Broxson and Barry learned there are four parallel tracks beds on the IP property just west of the crossing that merge into a single track across Highway 29.

Those tracks are not managed by CSX; they are operated by the Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway (AGR). AGR was not part of the initial discussions in January.

CTA determines CN breached service obligations on freight rail service in Vancouver area with wood pulp embargo

The CTA found that Canadian National Railway Company (CN) breached its level of service obligations by announcing its intention to impose embargoes on wood pulp shipments in September 2018, several months before rail congestion and other challenges emerged in the Vancouver area, and imposing those embargoes in December 2018, rather than making every reasonable effort to deal with those challenges before unilaterally restricting the transportation of the shippers' traffic.
