European Commission welcomes European Parliament's adoption of new rules on single–use plastics to reduce marine litter

BRUSSELS, March 27, 2019 (Press Release) -The European Parliament today agreed on the ambitious measures proposed by the Commission to tackle marine litter coming from the 10 single-use plastic products most often found on European beaches, as well as abandoned fishing gear and oxo-degradable plastics.

  • Single-use plastic cutlery, cotton buds, straws and stirrers to be banned by 2021
  • 90% collection target for plastic bottles by 2029
  • More stringent application of the “polluter pays” principle

On Wednesday, Parliament approved a new law banning single-use plastic items such as plates, cutlery, straws and cotton buds sticks.

560 MEPs voted in favour of the agreement with EU ministers, 35 against and 28 abstained.

EUROPEN calls on the European Commission and Member States to clarify without delay the provisions in legislation that remain ambiguous in order to ensure unified implementation across Europe.

PAPCEL resumes project to rebuild two PMs at India-based NEPA

LITOVEL, Czech Republic, March 27, 2019 (Press Release) -In 2015 PAPCEL signed an important contract for reconstruction of two paper machines with a national company NEPA, India.

Later in 2016 PAPCEL signed another contract with the same company for a delivery of new rewinder for paper machine No. 2 and reconstruction of the existing rewinder on paper machine No. 1. These deliveries of machinery equipment were carried out during 2016-2017. The project is a combination of PAPCEL‘s deliveries alongside local deliveries in India. In 2018 the project was paused by the customer.
