ESPOO, Finland, Feb. 18, 2019 (Press Release) -Valmet will supply a grade conversion rebuild with automation solutions for Shangrao City Lulin Paper Co., Ltd. in Shangrao, China. The main goal of the customer is to increase the capacity of fluting grades and expand the company by building a new greenfield mill. The start-up of relocated and converted paper machine PM 5 is scheduled for early 2020.

Containerboard: SKG gains from Los Reyes, Forney; Americas margin rises to 15.7% from 14.4%

OAKLAND, CA, Feb. 15, 2019 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -Smurfit Kappa Group's (SKG) containerboard and corrugated business in Mexico increased sales by 3.2% in 2018 to 794 million Euros and the firm's performance in the Americas including its US business grew margin from 14.4% in 2017 to 15.7% in 2018, the company announced this week.

Indonesian firms owe $1.3 billion in forest damage fines, says Greenpeace report

JAKARTA, Feb. 15, 2019 (AFP Business News) -Indonesian firms owe at least $1.3 billion in unpaid fines for environmental damage caused by widespread forest clearing and deadly fires linked to tens of thousands of premature deaths, a Greenpeace study said Friday.

Citing government data, the environmental group said it examined 11 civil court cases between 2012 and 2018 where palm oil and pulp-and-paper companies were ordered to pay fines to Jakarta.

"However, not one of these forests cases has resulted in compensation being paid," Greenpeace said.

FREMONT, CA, Feb. 13, 2019 (Press Release) -Nationwide Boiler Inc., the largest rental boiler supplier west of the Mississippi River, recently provided two large package watertube boilers on a fast-track emergency basis to a pulp and paper facility in the Pacific Northwest. Each boiler traveled nearly 1,000 miles to the customer site through rough winter weather, and in just seven days the boilers were delivered, installed, and put into service.

CPI: HM Revenue and Customs to launch Customs Declaration Service to replace existing Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight system

SWINDON, UK, Feb. 7, 2019 (Press Release) -HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is beginning a phased launch of the Customs Declaration Service (CDS). CDS will replace the existing Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system, with all declarations taking place on CDS from early 2019.

CHIEF currently processes declarations to facilitate the international movement of goods between the UK and non-EU countries. CHIEF will continue to run for a time to aid the transition to CDS.
