Stora Enso launches profit protection programme to strengthen competitiveness

Stora Enso is implementing a profit protection programme of EUR 120 million targeting reductions in variable and fixed costs, as market uncertainty increases. The programme will include all divisions and corporate functions. The Group estimates that some effects will be visible already during 2019 with full impact by the end of 2020.

Strong autumn for rail traffic at the Port of Gothenburg

The figures were strongest during the final quarter of the year when rail-borne container freight increased by 27 per cent. “The fact that long-distance freight transport is recovering at a higher rate is a clear indication of the growing confidence in the Container Terminal throughout the country,” said Claes Sundmark, Vice President, Container, Ro-Ro and Rail at Gothenburg Port Authority.

Associated British Ports (ABP) bolsters business with VPK Packaging Group joining Port of Hull

This bespoke agreement sees ABP handling paper reels destined for consumer packaging, from a weekly container shipment from Ghent at the Hull Container Terminal. It is then offloaded into the UK’s only All Weather Terminal storage area.

VPK has moved its shipments to the Humber area to enhance ease of distribution by road and strengthen its customer relations. A fully-integrated IT system enables live visibility of stock. ABP Humber Director, Simon Bird, said: “Another win for ABP Humber is great to see as we welcome VPK to the Port of Hull.

Finch Paper looks to upgrade NY facilities, improve efficiency with 84 projects

GLENS FALLS, NY, Feb. 19, 2019 (PostStar) -Finch Paper has gotten more efficient in the last few years and plans to use its profits to make many capital upgrades in 2019.

Chief Financial Officer Alex Rotolo said 2017 was a tumultuous year in the paper industry as a lot of companies went out of business. While that was not good for those employers, it caused paper prices to increase as the supply shrank.

“Because the market finally balanced, we were able to get fair prices for our paper and make a profit,” he said.
