Pasaban to supply new KB 2300 carton board sheeter for Pyroll Converting Group's service center in Siltakyla, Finland

TOLOSA, Spain, Feb. 20, 2019 (Press Release) -If there is one name that stands out in the European paper and carton board converting sector it is the Pyroll Converting Group, which has a sheeting capacity over 400.000 tonnes totally in five of its service centers.

At Pasaban we are proud to have been designing and manufacturing machines for its converting plant for more than twenty years. In this new project we have provided a highly automated and extremely flexible machine in order to increase the production of high-quality coated and uncoated carton board.

Valmet to supply new wood handling line for Metsä Group's Joutseno pulp mill in Finland

ESPOO, Finland, Feb. 21, 2019 (Press Release) -Valmet has received an order for a new wood handling line from Metsä Group's Joutseno pulp mill. The expansion works are starting this year and will be completed during spring 2020. Metsä Group's investment will make it possible to process larger amounts of fiber wood.

The order is included in Valmet's first quarter of 2019 orders received. The value of the order is around EUR 10-15 million.

Canfor temporarily curtailing production capacity in BC

Canfor’s sawmill in Vavenby will be curtailed for six weeks from February 11 to March 22, 2019. In addition, Canfor’s sawmills in Houston and Mackenzie will be curtailed for one week each in Q1.

In combination, these curtailments will reduce Canfor’s production output by approximately 40 million board feet. This is in addition to the approximately 150 million board feet of production capacity that was curtailed by Canfor in Q4 2018 and early Q1 2019, as previously announced.

Stora Enso launches profit protection programme to strengthen competitiveness

Stora Enso is implementing a profit protection programme of EUR 120 million targeting reductions in variable and fixed costs, as market uncertainty increases. The programme will include all divisions and corporate functions. The Group estimates that some effects will be visible already during 2019 with full impact by the end of 2020.

Strong autumn for rail traffic at the Port of Gothenburg

The figures were strongest during the final quarter of the year when rail-borne container freight increased by 27 per cent. “The fact that long-distance freight transport is recovering at a higher rate is a clear indication of the growing confidence in the Container Terminal throughout the country,” said Claes Sundmark, Vice President, Container, Ro-Ro and Rail at Gothenburg Port Authority.
