Canfor extends temporary BC curtailment

This decision is due to a continuing decline in lumber prices, in addition to high log costs and log supply constraints. The curtailment extension and reduction in operating hours is expected to reduce Canfor’s production output by an additional 55 million board feet in Q1. The sawmills were scheduled to resume production on January 7, 2019.

Canfor has 13 sawmills in Canada, with a total annual capacity of approximately 3.8 billion board feet.

According to the province, the integrated transport system allows for the removal of 7,000 trucks from local roads and motorways, thus reducing CO2 emissions.

In particular, the scheme benefits pulp transports from ports in the south of Italy to Lecta’s Cartiere del Garda mill and Fedrigoni’s Riva del Garda mill.

The Euro 400,000/yr ($452,396/yr) aid scheme was launched in 2014 and was cleared by the European Commission in April 2016 for the period from July 1, 2016 to December 31, 2018.
