Italy’s Trento province renews intermodal transport aid scheme

BRUSSELS, Dec. 17, 2018 (RISI) -The province of Trento, Italy, has renewed an aid scheme aimed at promoting the integrated rail-road transport system until 2020. According to the province, the integrated transport system allows for the removal of 7,000 trucks from local roads and motorways, thus reducing CO2 emissions.

In particular, the scheme benefits pulp transports from ports in the south of Italy to Lecta’s Cartiere del Garda mill and Fedrigoni’s Riva del Garda mill.

Koehler Paper and TU Darmstadt launch research partnership to develop functional surfaces from sustainable raw materials

OBERKIRCH, Germany, Dec. 13, 2018 (Press Release) -This January, Technische Universität Darmstadt and the Koehler Paper Group will kick off the Green Coating Collaboration, a research partnership aimed at developing functional surfaces from sustainable raw materials.

Koehler has already laid the foundation with an investment of over 300 million euros in its Kehl mill, where the company plans to produce paper-based solutions with special barrier properties. The objective is to replace plastic with sustainable paper solutions wherever possible and practical.

The World Container Index assessed by Drewry, a composite of container freight rates on 8 major routes to/from the US, Europe and Asia is down by 1.2% to $1,622.68 per 40ft container (updated Thursday, 13 December 2018).

Drewry provides container freight rate benchmarking covering over 8,000 port pair combinations via its Benchmarking Club.
