Ahlstrom-Munksjö to install new Euro 15 million co-generation plant at its Turin site in Italy

HELSINKI, Dec. 18, 2018 (Press Release) -Ahlstrom-Munksjö will invest approximately EUR 15 million to install a new co-generation plant at its Turin site in Italy. The investment allows the combined and efficient generation of power and steam needed for the site processes. The project will begin in the first half of 2019, and is expected to be completed by the first half of 2020.

LONDON, Dec. 18, 2018 (Press Release) -DS Smith, the UK’s largest paper recycler, welcomed the Government’s proposed new resources and waste strategy but claimed it needs to go further on mandatory recycling policies and be clearer on new investment in infrastructure.

Mr Jochen Behr, Head of Recycling at DS Smith commented:

A year on from Blue Planet Two, it is disappointing that we continue to produce household waste faster than we can recycle it. 2018 has been a turbulent year for recycling as now, for the first time, we are set to incinerate (1) more than we recycle.

The start-up of the rebuilt cutter and the new baling line is scheduled for the third quarter of 2019.

The order was included in Valmet's third quarter of 2018 orders received. An order with this scope of supply is usually valued around EUR 4 million.

PRATT'S BOTTOM, UK, Dec. 18, 2018 (Press Release) -The Government's new Resources and Waste Strategy will mean that packaging companies, manufacturers and retailers will see their compliance costs rise.

Defra has published the Resources and Waste Strategy for England, and it has revealed that, subject to consultation, producers will be subject to the full cost of recycling or disposing of their products rather than the approximately 10% they have paid previously.

Older people might remember trying to drink milkshakes through straws that fell apart after a few sips. Plastic slowly began to supplant paper in the 1950s, though, and paper straws were swiftly swapped out for the more durable alternative. By the late 1960s, Aardvark, a family-owned straw company that traces its origins back to the original paper straw, had completely switched its product to plastic.
