City of Tampere generates business out of paper mill sludge

TAMPERE, Finland, Nov. 30, 2018 (Press Release) -In 2014, the City of Tampere purchased some of the lands and waters previously used by the forest industry in order to build the future city district of Hiedanranta. The purchased cove in Näsijärvi came with an enormous mass of wood-derived waste materials, also known as paper mill sludge or “zero fibre”. Now, Hiedanranta is serving as a development platform for projects aiming to find use for paper mill sludge that would be financially sensible and clean up the water areas.

APP starts up four Toscotec-supplied tissue machines at its OKI mill in Indonesia

LUCCA, ITALY, Dec. 6, 2018 (Press Release) -Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) has begun using four AHEAD-2.0L PRODERGY tissue machines at its OKI mill, in South Sumatra, Indonesia, as part of a series of AHEAD-2.0L PRODERGY tissue machines.

These four machines, included in a major contract between Toscotec and APP, started production ahead of schedule, in just 60 days between August 14th and October 14th 2018.

Northern Pulp’s work schedule further off course than thought; Nova Scotia mill closure ‘last rational option’

HALIFAX, NS, Dec. 5, 2018 (Local News) -Northern Pulp’s replacement effluent treatment facility appears to be much further behind schedule than publicly thought.

A 2017 preliminary engineering consultant’s report obtained by The Chronicle Herald through a Freedom of Information Act request says that in order to meet the Jan. 31, 2020, legislated closure of Boat Harbour, the mill would have needed to receive approval to construct its new effluent treatment plant by May 7 of this year.
