Northern Pulp mill contains effluent leak after Nova Scotia mill takes maintenance outage

HALIFAX, NS, Oct. 22, 2018 (Global News) -The Northern Pulp mill has responded to a leak from one of their effluent pipes, with the company saying they took “immediate action” to stop the leak.

The company says they were first notified of an effluent leak at 9:20 a.m. Sunday, a day after the mill began its annual maintenance shutdown on Saturday.

Kathy Cloutier, director of communications for Northern Pulp’s parent company, Paper Excellence Canada, told Global News in an email that the leak is located downstream of the area where the 2014 leak occurred.

ROSWELL, GA, Oct. 22, 2018 (PRNewswire) -Imerys Kaolin announces price increases for its hydrous and calcined kaolins for Paper, Board and Performance Minerals applications, e.g. coatings, polymers, adhesives, pharmaceuticals etc.

Increases will be effective from January 1st 2019 and are subject to provisions in individual contracts.

Prices for hydrous kaolins will increase typically between 4 and 9% and prices for calcined kaolins will increase typically between 6 and 11%. Individual customers will be notified details of specific increase in due course.

LONDON, Oct. 20, 2018 (Press Release) -At least a fifth (20 per cent) of councils have felt a direct impact from China’s restrictions on imports of mixed paper and certain types of plastic over the last year, a snapshot poll by the Local Government Association reveals today.

Some of the councils who have been most impacted warned that their recycling costs have increased by £500,000 on average over the last year as a result of the restrictions.

Stacks 7, 8 and 9 are now processing container transactions for over-the-road trucks. This significant milestone inaugurates NIT's transition to the industry-leading operating plan already in place at Virginia International Gateway (VIG). The proposed FCA leaves so many questions unanswered, that we fear that it will not be possible to apply it in practice by the end of the transitional period and, most importantly, it increases the chance of a worst-case scenario; a no-deal situation.
