Lee & Man opens new HK$5.1 billion packaging paper mill in Sepang, Malaysia

HONG KONG, Oct. 24, 2018 (Local News) -Hong Kong’s biggest paper maker is opening a new HK$5.1-billion production plant in Malaysia, as it looks to build on its growing presence in Southeast Asia and meet China’s increasing demand for paper. 

The new factory in Sepang, also the site of the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix, will allow Lee and Man Paper to expand its capabilities in high-grade packaging paper. At full production, the plant will be able to churn out 700,000 tons of paper and 550,000 tons of pulp.

DUBLIN, Ireland, Oct. 23, 2018 (Business Wire) -Global packaging company Smurfit Kappa has marked the beginning of the rebuild of a recovery boiler with a ground-breaking ceremony at its Nettingsdorf Paper Mill in Austria.

The ceremony, which was the latest milestone in Smurfit Kappa’s Future Energy Plant project, was presided over by the Governor of Upper Austria and the Mayor of Ansfelden.

The new recovery boiler will increase the profitability and sustainability of the mill and is part of a €134 million investment in Nettingsdorf.

The operation consisted in the supply of a new reel, an innovative DCS system, a set of more efficient motors, renewed roller equipment and the relative drives. The dryer roller (Yankee Dryer) was also insulated by shielding the heads with a layer of coating.

Northern Pulp mill contains effluent leak after Nova Scotia mill takes maintenance outage

HALIFAX, NS, Oct. 22, 2018 (Global News) -The Northern Pulp mill has responded to a leak from one of their effluent pipes, with the company saying they took “immediate action” to stop the leak.

The company says they were first notified of an effluent leak at 9:20 a.m. Sunday, a day after the mill began its annual maintenance shutdown on Saturday.

Kathy Cloutier, director of communications for Northern Pulp’s parent company, Paper Excellence Canada, told Global News in an email that the leak is located downstream of the area where the 2014 leak occurred.
