Stora Enso and Finnish household products manufacturer Orthex combine wood and bioplastic to develop new range of kitchen utensils

HELSINKI, Aug. 7, 2018 (Press Release) -Stora Enso and Orthex together bring to the market a new range of kitchen utensils made from a new biocomposite which combines the best qualities of wood and plastic. The bio-based material used to replace fossil-based plastic is made from spruce and sugarcane, which reduces the carbon footprint of the products by up to 80%. The innovative products contain 98% bio-based material.

EU mobilizes record Civil Protection operation to assist Sweden with forest fires

BRUSSELS, Aug. 6, 2018 (Press Release) -Over 360 fire-fighting personnel, 7 planes, 6 helicopters and 67 vehicles were mobilised through the European Civil Protection Mechanism in the past three weeks, to assist Sweden in combating the unprecedented forest fires.

This is the largest European Civil Protection operation for forest fires in the last decade and the single biggest operation on forest fires in terms of deployment of staff. The operation included 815 flying hours and 8 822 drops of water.

UK-based LGA's analysis suggests two-thirds of plastic in packaging pots and trays is unrecyclable

LONDON, Aug. 4, 2018 (Press Release) -Manufacturers must scrap the “smorgasboard” of plastics which are used in packaging for key foods so that councils can reduce waste sent to landfill and increase recycling, the Local Government Association is warning today.

LGA analysis suggests that only a third of plastic used by households is able to be recycled. It found 525,000 tonnes of plastic pots, tubs and trays are used by households a year but just 169,145 tonnes of this waste is able to be recycled.

Valmet to supply new Advantage DCT100HS tissue production line to Papelera San Andrés de Giles' facility in Buenos Aires, Argentina

ESPOO, Finland, Aug. 6, 2018 (Press Release) -Valmet will supply an Advantage DCT100HS tissue production line, including an extensive automation package, to Papelera San Andrés de Giles in Argentina. The new tissue line will fulfill Papelera San Andrés de Giles' demand of new capacity of high quality tissue products for the Argentinian market. Start-up is planned for the second half of 2018.

The order was included in Valmet's second quarter of 2018 orders received. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

NFWF announces $2.19 million in grants to benefit forests and wetlands within the greater Mississippi Alluvial Valley
