UK-based supermarket chain Morrisons rolls out brown paper bags for loose fresh fruit and vegetables

BRADFORD, UK, June 25, 2018 (The Guardian) -Morrisons is reviving traditional brown paper bags for loose fresh fruit and vegetables, in a move it says will prevent 150m small plastic bags from being used every year.

The paper bags are being rolled out from Monday and will be in all of the supermarket chain’s 493 stores by the end of the summer. Made from 100% recyclable paper, they have a see-though paper strip to help shoppers and staff identify the produce inside.

SCA launches operations at its expanded Östrand pulp mill in Sweden, full production of 900,000 tonnes/yr to be reached by 2020

SUNDSVALL, Sweden, June 25, 2018 (Press Release) -Production at the expanded Östrand pulp mill began according to plan during the midsummer holiday (i.e. this weekend). SCA is investing SEK 7.8bn in the operation and the project is on budget and schedule.

SCA decided in 2015 to invest in an increased production capacity at the Östrand pulp mill – from 430,000 tonnes to about 900,000 tonnes of bleached softwood kraft pulp (NBSK). Following an extended maintenance stop, which began in April of this year, the expanded pulp mill is now in operation.

Through the joint development agreement, Stora Enso will licence Sulapac’s materials and technology, and begin the development of fully renewable caps and closures for liquid packages. Other areas for joint development work include food packages and packages for consumer electronics.

Stora Enso launches ReadyReel service in woodfree paper grades for digital printers and converters

Stora Enso has launched a new service called ReadyReel from its Lumipaper NV converting services site located in Antwerp, Belgium.

The ReadyReel service for narrow format reels has been developed to serve digital printers as well as direct mail and envelope converters. This allows customers to manage the ever-growing demands for shorter runs and faster turnaround within their process. The service is available for Stora Enso’s woodfree coated and uncoated papers.
