$50.5 million inland South Carolina port opens; bringing jobs to rural area; IP among companies to use it

The State Ports Authority officially opened its inland port in Dillon, linking the state's Pee Dee region with the Port of Charleston via a CSX Corp. rail line that will operate six days a week.

The $50.5 million cargo-transfer hub will let trucks and trains exchange thousands of containers filled with consumer goods destined for points north along Interstate 95 or — if headed in the other direction — to any number of markets overseas.

Rail line that serves Australian Paper mill to attract investment by other industries, companies

State Regional Development Minister Jaala Pulford was in Morwell to announce the infrastructure installation for the Gippsland Logistics Precinct and the oversee completion of upgrades to Australian Paper’s Maryvale mill spur line.

The $5.3 million funding for the precinct infrastructure will come out of a $10 million state government fund, announced as an election promise in 2014.

Best quarter ever for port of Antwerp

The port of Antwerp experienced an excellent first quarter with a freight volume of 58,328,678 tonnes, an increase of 7.1% on the same period last year. The total volume is a result of all freight categories with the exception of conventional breakbulk. The main driver, however, is once again container freight which enjoyed very strong growth of 9.5% compared with the first three months of 2017.

Samskip Nor Lines’ service will start calling SCA Logistics Rotterdam

Samskip subsidiary Nor Lines will include calls at Rotterdam for the first time in its weekly multipurpose liner service connecting to Western, Mid and Northern Norway, with effect from June 1st.

The service is provided by Nor Lines’ state of the art, LNG-fuelled vessels MV Kvitnos and MV Kvitbjorn. These flexible ships will sail in 14-day loops, connecting Rotterdam and Eemshaven with Norwegian ports from Hammerfest in the far north, and taking in calls including Sandnes/Tananger, Bergen, Trondheim, Ålesund, Bodo and Tromso.
