China intensifies waste management with laws on garbage

BEIJING, Jan. 2, 2018 (Xinhua News) -China has improved waste management and recycling systems to tackle environmental issues caused by a build-up of garbage.

In March, China issued a plan requiring 46 cities to carry out mandatory garbage sorting by the end of 2020. Under the plan, all public institutions and companies are required to separate hazardous waste, kitchen waste and recyclable materials.

Former APC Paper mill official in New York convicted of Clean Water Act violations

EAST LANSING, MI, Jan. 2, 2018 (Local News) -The former technical director of a northern New York paper mill faces sentencing Jan. 26 after pleading guilty to violating the Clean Water Act and falsifying waste discharge reports submitted to the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

Michael Ward failed to alert his supervisors at the APC Paper Group mill in Norfolk that the mill was exceeding the maximum daily level of discharges allowed under its state permit, according to the plea agreement filed in federal court.

UK's Total Waste Management directors Stewart Adrian Wagstaff and Janice Evelyn Wagstaff face ban after failing to comply with environmental laws

LONDON, Dec. 22, 2017 (Press Release) -Stewart Adrian Wagstaff and Janice Evelyn Wagstaff, directors of Total Waste Management Ltd (TWM) were disqualified for nine years and seven years respectively.

Following an Insolvency Service investigation, on 3 November 2017, the County Court at Wakefield disqualified Mr and Mrs Wagstaff for failing to ensure that TWM complied with its statutory obligations under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 resulting in the risk of serious pollution.
