MILAN, Italy, April 27, 2017 (Press Release) -A total of 3,284 tissue industry professionals from 106 countries participated in the world’s largest dedicated tissue industry trade show, Tissue World Milan, at Fieramilanocity in Milan, Italy. The show took place from 10 to 12 April and was held for the first time in Italy.

“This edition of Tissue World was a huge success,” comments Agnes Gehot, Deputy Event Director for Tissue World. “Visitors were able learn about the overriding industry trends and drivers, and we also were able to celebrate some leading-edge operations and their commitment to creating a more sustainable and effective industry. It is exciting to see how this highly positive environment can drive future developments. We are proud that this event provides such a strong platform for meaningful discussions.”

Alongside the show was a three-day conference designed to provide attendees insights into the entire tissue value chain. It included presentations from 53 speakers and consisted of three separate sub-conferences:

  • The Senior Management Symposium hosted 11 eleven speakers under the main theme: “Change is the only constant, but where is the tipping point?”;
  • The Yankee Operations & Energy Optimization Sessions;\
  • The Technical Sessions that explored several topics, including efficiency-enhancing and energy-saving technologies, Industry 4.0, converting technologies, chemicals, raw materials and fibres.

The go-to destination for all professionals in the tissue industry also hosted the Tissue World Magazine Mill Awards. At a gala dinner on the first day of the show, 150 guests witnessed LC Paper receive the award for the Most Energy-Aware Mill, Vajda Papir for the Best Tissue Marketing Strategy, and Rete Tissue Italy for the Most Sustainable Exhibitor.

LC Paper won the Most Energy-Aware Mill Award thanks to its track record of energy reductions since 1993. Most notable was the development of OnePly that replaces two layers with a higher weight layer, leading to a 19% reduction in energy consumption. Its modification of machine 2 resulted in a 35% energy consumption savings, and a new converting machine created a 45% savings in transport energy.

Vajda Papir KFT was awarded the Best Tissue Marketing Strategy for its high quality and affordable ‘Ooops’ sanitary paper product line. It had three key goals: Customer Brand Awareness, Customer Brand Attitude and Customer Perception. In addition to the usual above-the-line and below-the-line marketing strategies, the Hungarian tissue manufacturer targeted domestic consumers – primarily families with children – and encouraged customers to showcase their own Ooops experiences through social media. It also searched for more insight through surveys with customers and used their feedback on social media platforms.

Rete Tissue Italy stood out to win the Most Sustainable Exhibitor Award with all the organisation’s 14 exhibitors sharing services throughout the event for food and beverage, transportation and energy consumption. They also undertook a number of other collective measures: LED Walls to replace printed graphics and onsite lighting, equipment using rechargeable batteries, and reusable and recyclable wood was chosen for their stands.

Tissue World also featured free talks on the Tissue World Stage from, among others, the University of Pisa, Ecol Studio, Firefly AB, Ugur Seluloz Kimya A.S. and Aktül Kağıt Üretim Pazarlama A.Ş.

The next edition of the show has already been confirmed and will again take place in Milan, 25 to 27 March 2019 at the Fieramilanocity.

Tissue World would like to thank all its sponsors: Stax Technologies, Trebor, Nalco Water, BTG, Futura, ICM Makina, Gambini, Sofidel and Svenska Pappersbruket. The organisation also thanks its supporting associations: Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI), European Tissue Symposium (ETS), Paper Industry Technical Association (PITA), Portuguese Pulp and Paper Industry Technicians Association (TECNICELPA), Australian and New Zealand Pulp & Paper Technical Association (APPITA), Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry of Southern Africa (TAPPSA).
