North American forest products rail freight climbs 5.3% in latest week ending May 17

OAKLAND, CA, May 23, 2014 (RISI) -North American forest products rail freight rose 5.3% in the latest week ending May 17 to 19,346 carloads, while year-to-date volume was 2.8% lower than 2013 at 363,376 carloads, the Assn of American Railroads reported.

US forest products traffic rose 7.6% in the week and was 0.8% higher year-to-date. Respectively, Canada traffic was up 2.4% and down 7.9%, and Mexico was lower by 19.7% and 2.6%.

Total North American rail carloads were 5.3% higher in the week and 1.3% higher through 20 weeks, AAR reported.
