Panama City Port plans to buy land from West Rock mill for expansion in Florida panhandle

PANAMA CITY, FL, March 31, 2016 (Local News) -Expansion is in the near future for Port Panama City. Port officials, making the announcement earlier this week, said that this growth would attract more ships and new business.

After two years of research and negotiations, Port Panama City is placing a purchase agreement with WestRock Paper Group to buy a portion of land to build a second port.

Executive Director, Wayne Stubbs, says the agreement is just the right fit for the Port.

Valmet to supply key technology and machine control systems for two containerboard machines in China

The order is included in Valmet's first quarter 2016 orders received. The value of the order will not be disclosed. Typically, an upgrade of two lines of this scope is valued at EUR 20-30 million.

STOCKHOLM, March 31, 2016 (Press Release) -The paper mill in Hallstavik in Sweden is back to operating at full capacity after a major fire in November last year. ÅF was on site just days after the big fire to inspect and replace damaged equipment. Several of the plant’s machines for pulp production of book and magazine paper were damaged in the fire. Production stood completely still, but after two weeks production of book paper started up and now production of magazine paper is also up and running.

First EU sanctions in illegal timber trade – Finland relies on advisory activity

HELSINKI, March 30, 2016 (Press Release) -Criticized as ineffective, the European Union Timber Regulation is beginning to produce results. In Finland, penalties have not been required.

The EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) prohibits the placing of illegally logged timber and derived products on the EU markets. Effective since March 2013, the regulation also applies to timber logged in the EU countries.

At the beginning of March this year, Dutch authorities imposed a penalty on an importer bringing in illegally logged timber from Cameroon, West Africa.
